United Way of Greater Houston is committed to lifting up our neighbors and supporting them as they pursue better futures and big dreams. United Way studies the needs in our community and invests strategically to support the safety net, transform individual lives and bring long-lasting, systemic change to tough issues, like family financial stability, education and the quality of life for returning veterans. Last year alone, United Way of Greater Houston touched the lives of more than 2.4 million of our neighbors.
Together, we do something about it.
Keeping our neighbors and our community strong. For more than 90 years, United Way of Greater Houston has been here for our community, in good times and bad, throughout the circle of our lives. United Way of Greater Houston is focused on developing children and youth to their full potential, strengthening families and neighborhoods, sustaining senior independence and supporting those rebuilding their lives.
Helping hardworking, low-income families succeed. Helping a family achieve self-sufficiency and long-term financial independence can change that family’s trajectory for generations. United Way THRIVE helps families build stronger financial futures by acquiring skills and education, obtaining better jobs, developing good financial habits and building savings. Last year, United Way THRIVE put more than 52,000 families on the path to financial stability.
Preparing children to succeed academically. When kids have a strong educational foundation, they have a better chance of succeeding and positively contributing to their communities. United Way of Greater Houston is committed to supporting our kids as they enter and go through school—making sure they stay on track and have the support they need to reach their full potential.
Through United Way Bright Beginnings, United Way Reading Together, Learning Together, Summer Learning Initiatives, mentoring, after-school and character development programs and other academic supports, we are preparing our kids for education beyond high school, to compete in the workforce and to lead our community into the future. Last year, United Way of Greater Houston helped 418,000 young people develop to their full potential.
